An ambitious sports news site designed to hold a large quantity of up to the minute news. Including community features to get people involved in the news and keep them coming back.
The guys at Tigerfish really came through with the goods on this one, we have a great vibrant site that pulls in a huge amount of traffic.

Type: New Web Development,  Blogs, Traffic Building, integration with Twitter, FaceBook and Google News
Date: January 2009 - further upgrades September 2009

Background

News agency Sportsbeat approached Tigerfish with the spec to build an ambitious news site to hold the many articles their teams write daily. The original aim of the site was to just focus on Olympic news, but over time it has evolved to host a whole lot more.

The original brief was to provide news, blogs and features in a well categorised manner alongside a solid commenting system.

So far (and I mean so far, as I have absolutely no intention of changing) most of us reading this will spend an average of 2 – 5 hours each today embroiled in looking at social media.

So far (and I mean so far, as I have absolutely no intention of changing) most of us reading this will spend an average of 2 – 5 hours each today embroiled in looking at our tweetdeck columns, iphone social media apps, favourite blogs, You tube links and/or leaving comments and thoughts across the world wide web.

And the reason we do this is what exactly?

Sooner than you think.

When looking at global browser statistics, most people tend to focus on the whole rather than their target audience. A good average for this is the fantastic wikipedia entry which takes statistics from a whole range of sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Msieshare1. This claims that current global IE6 usage sits at a lofty 20%, certainly seems like something that can't be ignored.

As we’re into the new year and everyone is full of lists or predictions of what they want to achieve I thought I’d take a different slant and look at  people I want to spend more time working with, meet, engage & collaborate in social media and marketing; or at least hold a really decent conversation with across 2010. You can click on each name to find out more for yourself (twitter name at the end of each as well)

Here’s my list

Here is a great interview with Nick Harrison, creative Director at Dashal.com – it sums up how agencies should be embracing social media as a new communication channel – perhaps the communication channel. Agencies need to get on-board with the new way of marketing …..

It’s about getting focused and offering a client more value for their budget and producing results.
