In this article I outlne some of the factors to be aware of when designing web sites, creating new web pages for existing websites and planing content as gaining and maintaining a good ranking is directly linked to your knowledge of SEO.

Having been involved in web design and web development as well as online marketing for many years I have picked up and seen first hand how good SEO skills and careful employment of these skills can really help improve search engine ranking. Here is a list of a few SEO tips to keep in mind when developing new sites, writing new content or planning your next article.

The article below shows how search engine marketing, SEO and pay-per-click can be a massive boost to charities. It highlights the importance that you need to be fast off the mark and focused to achieve an increase in donations.

I suppose it stands to reason the faster a charity can put a facility in place to accept donations the easier it is to give to that cause.

We particularly agree with the statement at the end of the article that “digital” or online doesn’t sit in a vacuum but it is the fastest and easiest media to put in place to gain the most empathy from the public.

Despite the fact that many small businesses now realise that video marketing is something that they can implement relatively easily, for some reason they still aren’t doing it. With the benefits that video marketing can offer a business, this could be a fatal mistake.

This is possibly due to the fact that the concept of video marketing is still relatively new, and this could mean that most business owners simply do not understand how to use it effectively.

Well, lets start with "I want more visitors to my web site!"

When I visit a client there is always one question I am asked without fail in the course of an online marketing discussion with small and medium sized businesses.

“I want more visitors to my web site. How do I achieve it?”

Here are some options:-

The answer to the question can be both simple and complex as there are many ways to increase traffic to your web site.

We can consider AdWords but I find this to be an expensive option in the long term and when the spend stops so does the traffic.

It looks like Google can retain its bidding advantage on keywords, so companies cannot restrict bidding on their brand names.

It looks like Google can retain its bidding advantage on keywords, so companies cannot restrict bidding on their brand names. It looks like if you want to protect your brand you’ll have to sue each company separately through the national courts. A real piece of non legislation.

Google has won a long-running court battle over its use of trademarked brand names in its AdWords platform.

How to create EBS volume snapshots automatically, and how to automatically remove that build-up of old snapshots

For a while now, we've been looking for a solution to a common problem on Amazon EC2 hosting: how do you automatically create regular snapshots of your many EBS (Elastic Block Store) volumes, but also not create so many snapshots that it becomes unmanageable? We might have found the answer.

Like 350 others I was lucky enough to attend Likeminds 2010 in Exeter, Devon last Friday.

Much has been written about it the day; from the speakers, the attendees and the atmosphere, and most it has been very positive.
