We're looking to hire a Drupal / PHP developer and sysadmin (one role) to come work for us in Cheltenham, to help us continue our exponential growth and rapid rise to Drupal stardom! This is a permanent role, with no possibility of tele-commuting, and we're offering up to £35k if you're the right candidate.
How to get in the door
Solid Drupal 6 or Drupal 7 experience will get our attention. Still, don't worry if you have never worked with Drupal before; it's growing, but it's still a niche. We need 2 years' PHP and LAMP experience as a minimum, but in full:
- 2 years or more working with PHP
- 2 years or more working with LAMP stacks
- Working knowledge of Ubuntu systems and command line Linux
- Strong orgnanisational and time management skills
- Desire to work on a task to a very high quality and test everything
- Working knowledge of git
Who you are
Since this is a hybrid role, some of your work will be on system maintenance, and some will be on PHP development. You'll need to have an interest and dedication to both of these aspects of the job, as you might be called upon to switch to full time developer or full time sysadmin for short periods, depending on our ever-changing working landscape.
You need to be able to communicate yourself well, verbally with the team, and in written form, documenting your work and anticipating problems caused by lack of understanding before they occur.
What you'll do
You'll be working with a tight group of developers and designers, putting together high-quality, bug-free Drupal 7 websites, and maintaining existing ones. You'll be implementing existing modules, adapting them (giving back to the community where possible), and writing custom modules from scratch.
On the server side, you'll be adminstering Amazon EC2 instances, configuring load balancers and firewalls, maintaining Nagios and Munin monitoring systems, and provisioning new systems as and when they are required. You'll be deploying new sites and major revisions to existing sites, and applying and testing security patches to Drupal installations, while maintaining outstanding levels of security.
You'll also be working on our cutting-edge email and social marketing platform, Wildfire, expanding it, adding features, and upgrading existing systems.
What you get
We're a small development company, and teamwork is key. You'll have direct access to the entire development team, so rather than playing email ping pong or going upstairs to ask your question, just blurt it out; the guy with the answer is probably right next to you.
We put a priority on staying at the top of the techie food chain. You'll get your own choice of operating system and editing tools, and you'll have the chance to play with PHPStorm, Google Apps, Skype, Codebase, Litmus, Twitter and loads more.
Why choose us?
We're small, but it's because we're small that we're highly skilled in what we do. You'll be working with our emerging email and social media platform, Wildfire, which is a great opportunity to build upon a powerful Drupal-based product. This is also the team that brought fancyslide, the image slideshow module, to the Drupal party, and is spearheading the development of a native Drupal-based CRM system.
We're really close to the centre of Cheltenham in spacious, modern offices, and we have blazing fast Internet and a host of hi-tech gadgetry (plus fish)! We all work a proper day with a full hour for lunch, so no rushing around like a headless chicken, and because we're small we're flexible and accommodating when it comes to special working needs or circumstances.
We make a tremendous effort to participate in the Drupal community, so you'll regularly be invited to Drupal events across the country, from small evening meetups, through 2- or 3-day developer conferences, right up to the annual DrupalCon itself.
Oh, and come to work in jeans and a hoodie if you like. We do. You're a developer/sysadmin, after all! No fussy dress codes.
We're also a bit fond of beer, so expect a nice social pub lunch every now and again, and some great social events.
To apply, send your CV and portfolio (or links to them) to email@example.com. Let us know what you want to earn, and why you deserve it. We'll be in touch.
